Whitney Elizabeth Houston, born 9 August 1963, to the musically inclined family of Newark New Jersey is the daughter of Gospel star Cissy Houston as well as John Russell Houston Jr. Also, she is a cousin of singer star Dionne Warwick. The singer began her singing career in the choir of her church The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark as a young child and at 15 was singing backing vocals professionally with their mother in Chaka Khan's 1978 smash Im Every Woman. While her performance in the film and soundtrack weren't well received, the Dolly Parton cover I Will Always Love You as well as its accompanying album dominated the charts for singles and albums around the globe for months. They sold 44 millions copies. Also in 1993 when she got married Bobby Brown, an ex-New Edition singer with whom she bore her only child Bobbi Kristina Brown.
