Winona-Ryder

Winona Laura Horowitz professionally known by the name Winona Ryder was born in Winona Minnesota. The parents of her daughter named her after her hometown. Michel Horowitz was her father as well as Cynthia Palmer, his mother are both authors and editors. Ryder's father was from an ethnically Jewish family. Ryder considers herself Jewish. She has also a half-sister named Sunyata Jubal. Her younger sibling is Uria. When Ryder was seven, her family moved into Mendocino County California. The family didn't have electricity. Ryder read a lot because of the lack of television. Ryder started taking classes in acting in the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983 at the age of 12. Lucas, a 1986 film which was her first big part. Ryder was only 15 at the time she was cast. Ryder was bullied throughout her time in high school. Ryder hoped the acting profession would end that. Sadly that didn't happen. She continued to pursue her ambitions. Her biggest break came in 1988 with Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder continued to play successful roles in several movies. In 1993, Ryder was in the running two times for the Academy Awards.
